I'm back. Again. I really am sorry about the sporadic updates of late, and want to thank the 3/4 or so of you (according to my tracking statistics) who have stuck through them with me. The good news is that I don't have anything due by a certain date until school starts up again in late August, so I don't foresee any more problems in the near future (knock on wood.) And while I'm talking about my updating habits, the next update will be FRIDAY, June 15th, 2007. It's a non-regularly scheduled update, so the updates owed counter will finally begin its tick down to 0. Woo!

For today's comic, an interesting note is that I was unable to get the exact image I wanted off of Google Street View. Seems that the image in question is "no longer available." I have to say I did lose a bit of respect for Google when I discovered that they removed the image.

On an additional, tangential, more interesting, and adjective ridden note, I came into possession of a most peculiar find the other day. It's a book on "Natural Philosophy" (what is now known better as physics) printed in 1881. I'ven't gone through the whole thing yet, but already I'm reveling in how outdated and historic the whole thing is. I've enclosed a scan below to show you all what I mean (click on it to see a lower quality, but much larger version.)

Well, my friends who speak French (at least some level of it anyway) seem to disagree greatly on the last comic. I did get an overall consensus that while the literal translation may not make sense, it is at least one technically correct way to say what I wanted to say in French, so I'm just going to leave it (unless one of my fine readers knows better than my friends and wants to offer up some advice.)

ISDC was pretty amazing. Except for the talks that were given in rooms no larger than 4 by 3 meters and containing a good 50 people in them. In Dallas. In the summer. During a monsoon (read high humidity.) Oh, and the air conditioning just wasn't cutting it. It was worth it though, what for the talk with Rusty Schweickart. Let's just hope ISDC2008 is somewhere a little more comfortable.

As for HP, I'm not so sure what to think of them anymore. I've had really great experience with them and their tech support in the past (once you can get past all the questions on the script which would apply except for the fact that I already know a little something about computers and I wouldn't be calling if it was a software issue!) This time however, it took them two weeks before they could even ship the HDD out to me (though in their defense, it can't be easy finding a 100GB, 2.5in, 4200RPM HDD these days.) Let's just say I'm disappointed in them, and leave it at that.

Next few updates are scheduled for the 6th, 13th, 15th, 17th, and 20th of June. [an error occurred while processing this directive] 06/01/07 [an error occurred while processing this directive] Updates owed counter: 3

I'm back baby! You'll note the counter above. I'm going to be updating three days a week from now on until that counter reaches 0. Two caveats to this plan. First is that the next week will have only the standard two updates, as I'll be busy finishing up cansat. Finally, I'll be gone to the cansat competition during next Sunday (on the 10th of June) so I'll be missing that update completely (which will, of course add one to the above counter.)

As far as the comic above goes, I doubt the french is very accurate, as I just used an online translator. All my french speaking friends are asleep right now (at 5am, can you believe that?) However, I do plan on making it a bit more accurate later once I can actually get a more accurate translation.

Finally, expect a report on ISDC next news post. Perhaps a rant at HP for not getting the new HDD to me sooner will be included as well.
