Woah. What happened to the Portal Week I promised you all? This time it was not my fault. What you don't know is that Sunday I left for a vacation with my family. Now, surely, I figured to myself, surely the resort we will be staying at will have internet access. After all, this is a fancy resort, one which costs almost $400 a night. And even the cheapest Super 8 Motel offers free wireless these days. I'll be able to update my comic from the hotel, I thought to myself.

I was wrong.

The resort had internet access, however it was not wireless. Instead, you had to plug into the only jack in the place, which was in the bedroom in which I was not staying, using a cable that you brought yourself (I always carry 2m of cat5 with me, so that wasn't a problem, but was still pretty crappy of the). Furthermore, they wanted you to pay and ADDITIONAL $10 per day, or $40 a week for the priveledge. Now, I love the webcomic, and I love being able to bring regularly scheduled updates, but I can't justify the $40 cost just to update the webcomic three times (that one payment would have almost doubled my annual costs). As such, I was without internet access for an entire week. Trust me when I say that it was much more painful for me than it was for any of you who missed that comic.

So what now? Well, you may have noticed that Christmas is around the corner, and I'd like to do a comic themed around that or two. As such, I'm postponing Portal Week until sometime likely in January. This has the fortunate side effect of allowing me to draw two more Portal comics and letting Portal week be a 5 day event. So until then, check back on Sundays and Wednesdays, and I'll do all I can to have a new comic up for you.

A few new things have happened. First and foremost, I have added a comments system to the site, located at the top of the sidebar that houses the shoutbox. The forums have never gotten much attention, but the shoutbox has always been relatively popular. The problem is that the forums are too disconnected from the comic page to be convenient (requiring registration) and comics on the shoutbox quickly lose their context. This should fix both of those problems, allowing quick, anonymous commenting on individual comics (each comic automatically has its own comment thread which is kept separate). I don't foresee either the forums or the shoutbox going away; this is meant to supplement them, not replace them. That said, we'll see how you all end up using them.

Additionally, if you scroll to the bottom of the page, you'll notice that I am no longer reserving all rights. Instead, I reserve some rights. The site, and all its content, is now licensed under Creative Commons. So enjoy.

Ok, so much to talk about. First, thanks to everyone who is still around after all the downtime. You guys are truly awesome. Second, I know that this comic isn't exactly timely anymore, but I wanted to do a Thanksgiving themed comic, and this is as close to the date as I managed. Just pretend you saw this two weeks ago.

Next, to let you know what is planned for the near future. There'll be another update Wednesday (which is already drawn and scanned, woo!) Then, next week will be a departure from the usual schedule with Portal Week. Right now I have three comics drawn for it. If I don't get any more done, then they well be put up on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I'm going to try to think up two others before then though, which will give you one each weekday. More word on the exact quantity and timing at the start of Portal Week.

Speaking of Portal, it is an amazing game, and if you haven't played it yet, you need to as soon as possible. If your computer can't run it, or you lack the funds, the nice guys over at We Create Stuff has come up with a flash version of the game. It's not the same as the real version, but still very awesome in its own right, and worth a play through by everyone.

That's all I have for now. Remember to check the RSS feed for future updates, which should, barring the craziness we've all come to expect by now, be on schedule.
